About

Icon Construction has a skilled and dedicated team who consistently provide the highest quality workmanship and service to our customers.

Icon Construction was founded in 2007, originally as Bell Building, by brothers Steve and Andrew Bell. Andrew’s background in project management and Steve’s experience in the building industry meant the company quickly built a reputation for exceptional workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Having been brought up on the old-school values of honesty, integrity, hard work and a good firm handshake, we keep these values at the core of everything we do.

We pride ourselves on our communication and having a unique project management system which keeps you informed every step of the way. We also work closely with experienced sub trades to ensure that our customers’ projects are well co-ordinated and finished to a high standard, in the desired time frame.

Whether you are building a new home or renovating, we strive to ensure our clients end up with an iconic build that is tailored to their lifestyle and budget.

Icon Construction puts safety at the forefront of everything we do. As members of Site Safe and associate members of BeSafe Taranaki, we’re committed to maintaining a high level of health and safety.

We’re also community minded and actively support local schools, sports clubs and charity events.

Icon is committed to being an employer of choice and employ a dedicated, skilled and motivated team who take pride in their work.

Andrew -Director

Andrew’s role at Icon Construction is to oversee everything, or as he states it, “oil the chain” to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Andrew’s background is originally in engineering and oil and gas, where he spent 12 years living and working across Australia, UK and the Middle East. He then moved into project management and completed postgraduate studies at Curtin University in Perth. Andrew returned home in 2008 to set up the company with brother Steve.

Between work, his two children and dog Jack, Andrew says he doesn’t have a lot of time for hobbies. He did, however, used to be a keen diver, which once took him to the depths of ANZAC Cove. Nowadays, he enjoys bike riding with his children and supporting them in the multitude of activities they participate in.

Steve -Director

Steve is the friendly face you’ll likely meet first. He manages the initial phase of our projects from quoting and signing contracts, to engaging sub-contractors and suppliers, before handing over to the Icon project manager and site staff to begin construction.

Steve gets a kick out of working with clients to fine-tune their ideas and ensure every detail will compliment their lifestyles and budgets.

Having worked on the tools for many years, Steve knows his stuff. He has also completed further studies in quantity surveying to ensure he can help clients make informed decisions around each facet of their build.

Outside of work Steve enjoys martial arts, walking his dog and catching up with his kids & family.

Kelly-Jo -Administrator

Kelly keeps everyone and everything in the office under control. With a background in administration and finance that spans more than two decades, she covers the accounts, budgeting and our project management system. She also pays the wages, so nobody argues with her.

When she’s not doing combined martial arts with her two sons, Kelly can be seen cruising in her 1975 Corvette Stingray.

John -Project Manager

John manages each of Icon’s projects once the contracts are signed. This includes managing project scheduling, subcontractor and material co-ordination, supporting the site foreman and liaising with our clients.

He’s worked most of his life as a carpenter, but has also had stints with the New Zealand Army as an armoured personnel carrier crewman, and mustered cattle in the Australian outback.

John’s philosophy is to work hard so he can play hard. And that he does. Wakeboarding, white-water kayaking, mountain biking or rock climbing – he loves it all. Anything that offers a bit of excitement or adrenaline is right up his alley.
